About TourmalineAlthough tourmaline was already known in the Mediterranean since antiquity, it wasn’t until 1703 that it was imported by the dutch from Sri Lanka into Western Europe. They called the new gemstone with a Singalese word “Turmali”, which means as much as “stone with mixed colors”.In the early days the rubellites were used by artists as a mascot because they were supposed to increase the creativity.Tourmaline is an “affordable” stone and has remarkable qualities. And because of the vast amount of range in color saturation and intensity it makes it a great stone for jewelry.  The hardness of the tourmaline ranges from 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.
